My Spiritual Teachers | Alan Watts on Yoga
Updated: Sep 9, 2022
Alan Watts is one of the most engaging, fun and knowledgeable spiritual teachers I have come across. Although he considered himself a 'spiritual entertainer' rather than a teacher, his wide experience in many topics varying from mysticism to eastern philosophy and yoga has brought me hope, tears, big realizations, laughter and lightness of heart.
Here's a clip from Alan Watts on Yoga. It's a short introduction but one that brings a general view on the classical 'types' of yoga such as Hatha yoga, Raja Yoga, Karma Yoga and others.
'When you stop talking to yourself and you are simply aware of what IS - that is to say of what you FEEL, what you sense, even without saying too much - you suddenly find the past and the future have completely disappeared. So also have disappeared the so-called differentiation between the knower and the known, the subject and the object, the feeler and the feeling, the thinker and the thought, they just aren't there! Because you have to talk to yourself to maintain those things. They are purely conceptual, they are ideas, they're phantoms, ghosts!'
What 'ghosts' are you keeping alive with the non-stop chatter in your mind?
I hope you enjoy this short clip and that Alan starts to pop up on your playlists 💜
